I have been following the Lara Croft Tomb Raider franchise since way back in 2001 when the global phenomenon Core Designs released their first taste at what would later become synonymous only with the highest levels of adventure, exploration and of course critical acclaim! Between then, and I would say around 2003/4 pretty much the time that we were all introduced to The Angel of Darkness, I would have to say the primal driving force behind the theme itself for me personally, other than the never before seen high levels of interactive exploration, was her undeniable sex appear and female confidence and charisma. That is why when the gaming icon released their first film back in 2001 I was the first to get in line. Moreover, I was so impressed by the actress that they so diligently and meticulously selected to play Lara, which of course was the magnificent and ever mysterious Angelina Jolie that I actually framed and hung the movie poster in the very front of our Mr. Video shop at Key West! So I am certain that I would be treated with nothing but understanding from you guys, when I said that my hopes were not sky-high for the brand new 2018 release directed by Roar Uthaug this time round, as apposed to the “"Master Of Special Effects”", Simon West in the previous creations where Jon Voight starred as her father. And I must say, I was not only forced into a situation where I had no other option but to eat my words, but I would go as far as to say that Alicia Vikander (Ex Machina and The Man from U.N.C.L.E.) did such a stellar job, that I would have to say that this is the best of the franchise to date, she out performs Angelina Jolie both aesthetically and in onscreen presence. I would even go so far as to say that I enjoyed this even more than The Cradle of Life. On set on an island just off the coast of Japan, one which is literally riddled with mazes and intrigue, this serves as the foundation to what later becomes, of the greatest and most addictive adventure / exploration scenes I have ever experienced. Premised around her unwavering search for a very peculiar and daunting tomb, one that her dad, in his last hours specifically requested her to stay away from! Absolutely jam-packed with action and thrill, magnificent storyline and an absolute must for any and all adventure segregationist!
